This is a very simple, yet very nourishing smoothie. During pregnancy, you want to avoid foods that are too high in medicinal properties, as the powerful components of plants can actually be too powerful and flush the body. So in choosing healthy foods, I try to stick the the basic, simple nourishing foods. I'll incorporate superfoods, but just tiny portions and I tend to keep everything mild. Superfoods are definitely safer than herbs and essential oils, during pregnancy, however, as they are foods usually dried and ground up in their whole form, rather than potent reduced extracts. So here, I add a little bit of chaga for mental clarity and immunity, as well as some green adaptogen protein containing chlorella for healthy blood, and maca + suma for general wellbeing.
1 C almond milk
1 handful kale leaves
1 T peanut butter or almond butter
1 frozen banana (or non-frozen, add a few cubes of ice if your banana is not frozen)
1 t hemp seeds
1 t cinnamon
1 t green adaptogen protein by Sun Potion (optional)
1/2 t chaga mushroom powder (optional)
Blend in a Vitamix or high speed blender and enjoy!
